La leggenda del jazz Herbie Hancock è stato protagonista di un’intervista per Time Out Dubai in cui, oltre a rispondere su temi come politica, poesia e Miles Davis, ha espresso il suo giudizio su un artista contemporaneo che conosciamo bene e con il quale ha avuto il piacere di confrontarsi e lavorare. Il celebre jazzista ha parlato della sua intesa con Flying Lotus (il produttore californiano è il pronipote di Alice e John Coltrane) di cui ha avuto modo di stimare la sua malleabilità artistica. Il capo della Brainfeeder ha quasi ultimato il suo prossimo progetto e sarà a breve in Italia per aprire il suo tour europeo, in compagnia di Thundercat e Captain Murphy, nelle città di Milano e Spoleto alla fine di questo mese. Ecco l’estratto dall’intervista:
“I really enjoy the interaction and dialogue with other musicians, and being able to provide some sonic atmosphere for them to play in, and to bounce off ideas in the moment, that’s what jazz is really about. There’s a guy named Flying Lotus that I’ve been in cahoots with, from the electronic area. We’ve got some different stuff that he’s doing. I suppose people would put him in the category of electronic music. But to just describe it that way really misses the mark, there are a lot of different influences on the music he’s done, and some of it’s been very modern classical, some R&B, some maybe hip-hop, there’s a jazz influence – it covers broad territories which is one of the reasons I’m interested in working with him”.
